At their initial consultation, each of our patients will receive a review of both their dental and medical health history. This will include an evaluation of your home oral hygiene habits prior to the examination of the mouth. The conversation with the hygienist will include the following questions:
- How often do you brush your teeth?
- Do you floss?
- Do you use fluoridated toothpaste?
- Do you know if your town’s water is fluoridated?
- Are you currently on any medications?
During the review, your answers will help us learn about your overall health and what potential oral risks you may have. The second part of your initial consultation will include an examination of the gums, teeth, and soft tissue. This helps our dental staff determine which X-rays will be necessary to complete your personalized treatment plan. Your risk factors and disease indicators will be documented as part of your patient record. Every visit begins with a caries risk assessment.
