Have an overbite, underbite, gaps or crooked teeth? Invisalign aligners can fix that.
Invisalign clear aligners are the world’s most advanced removable dental aligner; an alternative to the standard metal braces with brackets. Virtually invisible and made from a proprietary plastic, SmartTrack® Material, Invisalign straightens teeth with comfort and precision. They are custom trimmed for comfort and fit, and can show improvement in teeth alignment in as little as 6 months. They are much more comfortable than wire brackets and braces and most people will not even notice you wearing them.
How Invisalign Treatment Works
- First your doctor will examine your teeth. There are some things that Invisalign aligners cannot fix. During this exam your doctor will determine if Invisalign treatment is a good treatment option and if so, show you what Invisalign aligners can do for you.
- Your doctor will then take a fast, painless, digital scan of your mouth to map out a custom treatment plan just for you. You will even see a preview of your new smile: post treatment.
- Everyone’s teeth and gum lines are different. Your digital scan will be sent off to where aligners are custom made using industry leading technology and a state-of-the-art printing and trimming process. During this process the doctor works closely with the Invisalign technicians to develop a series of aligners (trays) that will work to move your teeth to their desired positions.
What to Expect During Your Invisalign Treatment
It takes about 4 weeks from the time your mouth is mapped to getting your first set of aligners. Each set of aligners are worn for two weeks and are designed so the teeth are slightly straighter each time your move to a new set. Typically, teeth will move about 1/10mm per set of aligners. Because of this, you may feel slight discomfort when switching to your next set. This is completely normal and in most cases this discomfort only lasts a day.
Invisalign aligners should be worn day and night, and taken out when brushing, flossing, or eating. It is recommended that your aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours a day.
After your Invisalign treatment has finished, it is then time for retainers. Retainer options vary and range from clear plastic trays (similar to the Invisalign aligners) to a fixed (permanent) retainer. The choice of retainer and how often it will be worn will be for you and your doctor to decide.
